A prominent speaker and poet, Ramachandran Pillai was born to Cherukara Parameswaran Pillai and Koikkaleth Bhargavi Amma. He was their second child and the eldest male member of the siblings.

His poems like “OruVidavangal” “Abu Ben Adam” “Vichithra Manushyan” etc. were published in various periodicals. A few of them were broadcast by the Thiruvananthapuram station of Akashavani. He made a commendable effort to revive “Devi Mahatmyam” Kuthiyottam Pattukal which was written by his father’s elder brother, Meenathathil Keshava Pillai.

Soon after completing his studies, he accepted a job with the Indian Railways. He was the first in the family to take up a full time job. In those days, the practice was that no one from wealthy families was allowed to go for a job for a living. He challenged this practice and strongly believed in self-reliance and living with self-esteem.

During his career, he lead Railway Employees on various issues. With his deep knowledge of labor laws and excellent command of the English language, he won many trade disputes for railway employees..
